Bermuda Vacation

Colorful, Colonial Bermuda

Bermuda
Stories of mysterious disappearances in "the triangle" and confusion over it's location make Bermuda one of the most misunderstood islands on earth. Strategically located in the middle of the Atlantic, Bermuda played an important role in American history and early trading between the continents. Towns like St. George's and Hamilton bear the mark of the British colonies with pastel colored buildings and residents who speak "proper" English!

Mark and Julie head out to sea for the Kings Cup Regatta, where Americas Cup captains face off in local Bermudian vessels, and they discover the spectacular undersea world on a dive trip. They cycle past forts, beaches and golf courses and take a scenic hike on the "old railway trail".

At the Royal Dockyard, they get up close and personal with the residents at Dolphin Quest and in St. Georges, they discuss the island's heritage with local historians, and take a humorous stroll with the "town crier" and his colorful pet.

TIPS for TRAVELERS to BERMUDA

Don't let it's location far north of the Caribbean islands fool you, Bermuda enjoys a moderate, tropical climate due to the Gulf Stream, so you can visit all year round, depending what sort of temperatures you prefer.

There are many fabulous, swanky resorts on the island, and golf courses enough to keep you entertained for a month. I prefer smaller hotels and quaint towns where I get lost in the alleys, take pictures of old buildings and chat with the locals. If that is what you are after, St Georges is probably a good choice, especially off season when there aren't as many cruise ships in town. We enjoyed our stay at "Aunt Nea's" right in town, where you can walk down to the local coffee shop in the AM, and have many restaurants to choose from in the PM, all walking distance.
