Verbier and Lake Geneva, Switzerland
Verbier and Lake Geneva, Switzerland
A peek behind the walls of historic Chateau Chillon, on the shores of Lake Geneva, provides an introduction to the magnificent Swiss Alps region. Just fifty years ago, Verbier was a tiny mountain hamlet with only 27 residents, today it's peaks attract the creme de la creme of extreme sports enthusiasts and filmmakers. Adventure sports photographer Hank DeVre shares his passion for the outdoors and joins Julie & Mark to explore the off piste terrain that has made Verbier famous.
Back at Lake Geneva, Mark & Julie cycle along the picturesque shoreline, golf in historic Evian, and learn about the wines of the Jura Mountains from a local vintner.
TIPS for TRAVELERS to VERBIER & LAKE GENEVA
If you can plan your visit for the springtime you can have the best of both worlds - good skiing on the high slopes of Verbier, as well as flowers blooming around Lake Geneva.
If you are a die-hard skier looking to spend a winter in the Alps, I would recommend Verbier as your home base. You will not run out of challenges on the mountain, and the village has plenty of goings on to entertain you after-hours.
It's a great spot to rub elbows with the best in the sport, who will hopefully share their secrets, assuming you can keep up!
