A Journey Down the Yangtze River, China

A Journey Down the Yangtze River, China

 Yangtze River, China
A cruise on the Yangtze passes through the magnificent Three Gorges section where the construction of the world's largest dam will forever change this mighty river. While the dam will provide much needed electricity, the giant lake it creates will engulfed whole villages, ancient monuments and archeological sites.

Mark & Julie experience a traditional way of life with "Trackers", wiry guides who navigate the tributaries of the Yangtze in "pea pod boats", fending off the cliffs with long bamboo poles.

In the "City of the Ghosts" temple, statues of demonic giants tower over the town of Fengdu waiting for the day when the waters of the Yangtze will wash over their feet.

In the delta region, Mark & Julie join the half million locals who get around on bikes. They tour the countryside, crossing bridges over canals, and explore quaint Suzhou, where intricate silk embroidery is the pride of the city.

Bustling Shanghai provides a first hand look at modern China as it collides with it's own ancient culture. Traditional architecture is replaced by skyscapers, and the elegant tea ceremony survives side by side with neon signs advertising the latest hi-tech toys.

TIPS for TRAVELERS to THE YANGTZE RIVER & SHANGHAI, CHINA

There are many different cruise lines operating on the Yangtze, and they offer various levels of price and comfort.

My advice: this is absolutely a trip worth splurging on!

There is so much that can be learned on this trip IF you have the benefit of knowledgeable, English speaking guides - it really makes the trip.

We heard many horror stories from travelers who tried to save money on cheap cruise lines.

If you value comfortable, clean cabins, delicious meals and having information readily available - don't skimp on this once in a lifetime experience!
