Classic Swiss Castle are everywhere

If you seek that rare combination of history and cosmopolitan flair, you'll find it in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Lake is ringed with chateaus and picturesque villages, as well as ruins that date back to Roman times.

We'll cycle around Lake Geneva and visit vineyards at the foot of the Jura Mountains.

Here an eighth generation vintner shares his family legacy, and the secret of their special Chaslas wine.

We'll soar in a hot air balloon over the Rhone Valley, capturing vistas of the towering Alps, and the village of Crans Montana.

This sunny resort sits on a high plateau, and is a haven for adventure enthusiasts.

Local ski guides take us way off piste, to a chute so steep that it is acessed only by ladder.

You'll get a bird's eye view of the region onboard a paraglider, as well as a taste of the casual apres-ski life in this mountaintop resort.

TIPS for TRAVELERS to LAKE GENEVA & CRANS MONTANA

If you enjoy a healthy dose of exercise on your travels, consider renting a bicycle to explore the region. In Geneva, we rented bikes at the central train station for roughly $15 a day. These are all-purpose bikes, equipped with lights and bells for general cruising.

At the foot of the Jura mountains near the French-Swiss border is the little village of Peissy, and the wonderful family winery, Les Perrieres (e-mail: rochaixbb@swissonline.ch) Stop in, say hello to Bernard Rochet, and sample the local "Chaslas".

For an elegant place to stay in Geneva, we can recommend the historic Beau Rivage, right on the water. We shared the hotel with a Saudi prince and his entourage! (translation: it's not a cheap place to stay, but it is a great location and lovely hotel!)
